Bury secured the double over Colne this season thanks to a convincing 4-1 home win.
Naming an unchanged line-up from Tuesday night’s victory over Squires Gate Bury found the Pendle side to be a tougher challenge. Jack Atkinson had to pull off a big save on 15 minutes from a Lucas Weaver strike. From there Bury went on the attack themselves, Andy Briggs teeing up Harry Brazel to shoot but could only direct it straight to Colne keeper Harry Allen.
Bury would take the lead on 25 minutes. After the break down of a Bury free kick the ball fell kindly to Shakeel Jones-Griffith to shoot from outside the area and his effort found the far bottom corner.
Colne began their fight back, Alex Doyle forcing a great save from Atkinson as the ball seemed destined for the top corner. However Doyle was not to be denied again, left unmarked as the resulting corner was dragged back to him Doyle fired on goal and beat Atkinson thanks to a wicked deflection in the crowded Bury box.
It would be Bury that got to half-time with the lead however. Briggs again showing his strength knocked the ball onto Brazel who burst through the middle and slipped the ball underneath Allen into a waiting goal.
Not content with just the lead Bury took the match away from the visitors within five minutes of the restart. A pass from the right from Comber found Briggs who held off one defender, beat another and beat Allen at his near post. Then in a moment Briggs scored again. A looping ball was headed on by Peet, brought under control by Briggs with his chest and once again beat Allen to make it 4-1.
Briggs had a chance to secure his first Bury hat-trick but his shot from a tight angle only found the side netting. The Shakers pushed for a fifth goal and came close with chances from Jones-Griffiths, Brazel and Nsaka as well as late efforts from substitutes Saj Elhassan and Abs Obasoto but Bury couldn’t convert the continued onslaught into further goals.
Colne for their part tried to get back into the matches and might have scored had a scramble from a free kick not been cleared by Matty Williams or had James Thewlis been able to keep his close range effort on target.
Bury kept their three goal lead and completed what was their biggest win since the opening week of the season.
